ACT Prep

I teach juniors and seniors at a high school in the Nashville area, so I go through the college application process with 150 students each year in addition to my own children and my coaching clients.  Believe me when I tell you that it’s much more confusing and high stakes than it was when you applied to college. My clients range from 8th graders to high school seniors. We can meet or video chat to discuss the following or any questions you may have:

  • Do you know the best month to take the ACT?

  • Did you realize that many colleges require 3-5 writing samples each?

  • Well rounded?  It’s out. Talk to me about what colleges are looking for today.

  • How does your child build a solid application resume?

  • Who should write their letters of recommendation?

  • What does “test optional” mean, really?

  • Does my child has a shot at ______ university?

  • What classes should they take in high school?

  • How does the FAFSA work?

  • Should we apply Early Action or Regular Decision?

I coach approximately 150 students in six ACT prep classes each year, so I remain up-to-date and very familiar with the test. I was selected to co-create a full semester ACT online course for Williamson County Schools. My own children scored in the high 30’s on the ACT, so I’m familiar with students who just need a few more points to achieve their goals. I also work with students working toward a 21 for the HOPE scholarship, as well as those who need strategies and insights to gain a few more points for applications and scholarships. I've had clients gain anywhere from 1 to 9 points.  The average is a 4-pt increase after tutoring. Each student gets customized face-to-face coaching based on their areas of strength and areas of improvement.

Essays

I have a degree in writing and have been published many times, as well as working as the Vice President of Editorial for a large online company. Now I teach AP English & Composition to teens and edit hundreds of essays each year. Most of my essay clients need help brainstorming topics, adding flavor to their essays, and using their unique voice to answer college application prompts. Whether your child is writing one essay for the Common App or 20 essays for multiple applications to prestigious schools, I can help them find ideas, find their perspective, or find just the right word when they’ve used the term “passion” five times already. I keep up with trends and fads in college essays that should be avoided, and I have plenty of winning sample essays for inspiration. My clients have written essays to all the schools on the Clients page as well as winning essays for many local scholarships.
